New Iveco Eurocargo : the king of urban distribution
Iveco launches a new version of the Eurocargo, its urban distribution trucks, with the slogan : « The truck the city likes ».
After the Iveco Stralis and the Iveco Daily, the Iveco Eurocargo evolves, two years after the launch of the Euro 6. Manufactured in Italy at the Brescia factory, the new Eurocargo benefits from numerous technical innovations in order to reduce its fuel consumption.
HI-SCR : fuel savings and pollution reduction
The Eurocargo is the only truck of its category to be equipped with the exhaust after-treatment system « Hi-SCR ». Without EGR (exhaust gas recirculation), this system doesn't alter the combustion system because it sends fresh air in the engine. The particle filter's life is extended and its maintenance simplified since it is a particle filter with passive regeneration, which cleans itself permanently.
In the engines, the combustion process has been optimised for a better energetic efficiency and to reduce the creation of polluting particles : the nitrogen oxides are reduced by approximately 97% with the selective catalytic converter. Other than the benefits in terms of fuel consumption and pollution reduction, the HI-SCR device gives the truck more useful load since it is lighter and needs less components.
New engines : a high torque even at low speed
8 different motorisations are available, 2 new Tector 5, 4-cylinder engines ranging between 160 and 190 horsepower. Equipped with a new turbocharger, these engines have a better compression rate (18 :1 against 17 :1 before) and a higher torque (680 rpm for the 160 hp and 700 rpm for the 190 hp). The maximum power can be reached from 2.200 rpm/min instead of 2.500 before. The high engine torque at low speed allows a higher rate in the accelerations and pick-ups. The driver has a better driving comfort but also reduces fuel consumption (up to 8%) while reducing the CO2 emissions.
Alongside these innovations, the EcoSwitch and EcoRoll devices also help reduce the fuel consumption using the truck's inertia. Thanks to the EcoSwitch feature, which lenghtens sixth speed engagement times and limits dowb-shifting into fourth, the torque is optimised. With EcoRoll, available on 12-speed transmission, the truck's inertia is used in downhill situations to save fuel.
Reinforced safety and revisited design
In addition to the airbag and wheel commands, the onboard safety of the new Iveco truck has different technologies LDWS, EVSC, AEBS and ACC. The LDWS (Lane Departure Warning System) warns the driver with a beep when crossing a line. The EVSC (Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control), already on the 12 and 19 ton models, controls the truck's trajectory. The AEBS (Advanced Electronic Braking System), starting in November 2015, is an advanced braking system to avoid collisions. Finally, the ACC (Adaptative Cruise Control) regulates the safety distance with the front vehicle.
In the cab, an advanced telematic system gives the possibility to control the vehicle's use, manage the drivers, evaluate their driving style and organise the work flows with performance indicators. Pre-equipped for smartphones, tablets and GPS browsers, the Eurocargo benefits from the DriverLinc screen used for the management fleet, and the Driver Coach feature helps the driver adapt its driving to reduce the fuel consumption.
The design of the Eurocargo is the same as the new Daily : the side deflectors and the V radiator grill have been remodeled. The bumpers have the AEBS radar. Two LED day lights (Daytime Running Lights) are on every truck, but xenon lights can be installed on demand.
Eurocargo Natural Power : for sustainable transport
Iveco offers a « super-eco » version of the Eurocargo, equipped with a Tector engine of 6 litre using compressed natural gas (CNG). This engine reaches 210 hp for a maximum torque of 750 rpm. The natural gas, clean fuel, reduces the emissions of CO2, nitrogen oxides and fine particles respectively by 10, 35 and 95 %. Silent, the Eurocargo Natural Power is ideal for urban night deliveries. They meet the requirements for the Euro 6 norme stage C, meaning it can access areas with driving restrictions in city centres.
