Bus - Bus
A bus, or bus, is a road vehicle of the heavy goods vehicle family intended for public passenger transport or TPV (public passenger transport).
The bus is an urban or peri-urban means of transport, unlike the coach which provides inter-city connections. Because buses travel short distances, the travelers they carry are not required to be seated or to wear seat belts.
There are different types of buses: the minibus (up to 30 passengers), the midibus (from 70 to 80 passengers), the double-decker bus (or double-decker bus), and the articulated bus or accordion bus which allows you to carry around 200 people. Currently, a standard bus can carry around 100 passengers. To make it easier for travelers to get on and off, buses have several doors and increasingly easy access for people with reduced mobility.
Historically, the first horse-drawn bus was designed by Stanislas Baudry in Nantes in the 19th century, under the name of "omnibus". In 1831, the Englishman Walter Hancock circulated the first bus equipped with a steam engine, followed in 1895 by the first gasoline-powered bus developed by Benz. Established in Paris in 1905, buses have gradually replaced trams in French cities. This trend has recently been reversed with the entry into service of new metro and tram lines in major cities. Some municipalities still choose to put into service buses on their own site (benefiting from a reserved lane), but also hybrid or electric buses, which are more ecological.
