A tipper truck is a rigid with a bodywork that tips. The tipper is fixed on the chassis and is operated by a hydraulic cylinder. Tipper trucks with a removable skip are called hook lift if they have a hydraulic arm, or skip loader if they are equipped with hydraulic brackets to place several tippers on top of each other.
In general, the tippers tip from the back. When it is possible to tip on the side, the truck is called a two-way tipper. There are also three-way tippers meaning that the skip tips on the right, on the left and on the back. A tipper truck can have an auxiliary crane to load and unload the truck.
Some tippers are made for specific use : cereal tippers for cereal transport or pellets, and halfpipe tippers for rock transport. If cereal tippers are essentially made of aluminium, halfpipe tippers are usually made of reinforced steel with a semi-cylindrical shape to absorp the rock fall. This type of tipper is often seen on construction trucks and articulated dumpers.
The main tipper manufacturers are Marrel, Meiller, Cif, Forez-Bennes, Benalu and Lohr. On Planet-trucks.com, take a look at the ads for used tipper trucks.
