Oberhof: Arocs providing logistical support for the Biathlon World Cup

On the occasion of the Biathlon World Cup held in January at the Arena am Rennsteig in Oberhof (Thuringia), Mercedes-Benz Arocs trucks were deployed to carry out snow-clearing operations. The vehicles came from the CharterWay rental fleet. Their deployment continued after the competition to support other events at the venue.

An operational setup under significant constraints

Nearly 300 athletes from 27 nations took part in the competition. The presence of thousands of spectators and international television coverage increased logistical requirements around the stadium, in coordination with Oberhofer Sport und Event GmbH (OSE).

During the event and in the days that followed, teams had to move large volumes of snow, remove excess snow from the arena and maintain safe access to the various traffic areas. Operations were carried out in demanding winter conditions, on narrow roads within the sports complex and on forest tracks.

    Trucks configured for off-road operations

The Mercedes-Benz Arocs used in these operations were selected for their capabilities in challenging environments. A reinforced chassis, adapted drivetrains and axle configurations with differential locks enable operation on snow, ice and sloping terrain.

The manoeuvres required precision and manoeuvrability, particularly in restricted access areas. The vehicle’s ergonomics and technical features meet the demands of long working days in variable conditions.

    CharterWay, a nationwide rental offering

The vehicles used in Oberhof came from the German fleet of Mercedes-Benz CharterWay, operated by Daimler Truck Financial Services. This organization manages around 6,000 vans and heavy trucks and offers short- and long-term rental solutions.

Its fleet includes conventional powertrains as well as around 150 battery-electric vehicles. The gradual integration of models such as the eActros 600 forms part of an offering presented as a comprehensive “Truck-as-a-Service” solution.
