Urban eTruck: Mercedes presents its fully electric truck
At fall 2016, Mercedes will present a fully electric truck specialized in urban distribution operations. With a 2x125 kW power, this 26-ton urban truck has a battery life of 200 kilometers (approx. 124 miles). It takes three hours to charge the vehicle when it is plugged on a 100-kW socket.

This truck is ideal for delivery service or urban freight. It has been designed to transport a load up to 25 tons. Mercedes chose to present it during the next IAA trade in Hannover.
For the moment, the Urban eTruck is still a concept. Its production will start in 2020.
A few other truck makers are already present on the electric vehicles market. Indeed, Renault Trucks already presented its electric Maxity, when Tesla is specialized in electric cars. Nonetheless, a few days ago, Tesla has announced that they are currently thinking about launching an electric truck.
Mercedes Urban eTruck Technical features
These trucks have been designed according to the pattern of a 3-axle heavy-duty distribution truck, already produced by Mercedes. The rear axle can be controlled electrically and are equipped with two small electrical engines situated next to the wheel hubs. Both these engines may deliver a 335-HP power.
The three lithium-ion batteries of the truck weigh 2.5 tons as a whole. They deliver a 2x125-kW power and the electrical engines have a maximum torque of 2x11 000 Nm. Thanks to these features, the Urban eTruck is as efficient as a truck running on diesel.
According to the maker, the 2 500 kilos of battery are counterbalances by a lack of tank, transmission elements, differential engine and fuel.
Finally, Daimler will offer its customers to customize their battery pack with other options to meet their needs (longer distances, demanding routes, etc.).
