The Fuel Duel by Mercedes Benz
The Fuel Duel was created in 2011 in the Netherlands. The goal of this challenge is to give Mercedes Benz prospects Actros tractor units equipped with technologies that reduce the fuel consumption. Today, the Fuel Duel is offered in 22 European countries. In January 2016, the German manufacturer renews his project with new Actros tractor units equipped with engines even more energy efficient.
In order to realise the Fuel Duel, Mercedes gives their prospects Actros trucks that they use in their fleets in the same conditions as their other trucks. When the test ends, these prospects give the manufacturer a report with the difference of fuel consumption between their vehicles and the Actros.
Significant results at a European level with the Actros tractor units
In 2015, more than 1 900 duels took place everywhere in Europe on nearly 9 million kilometres. Over the year, the Actros won 90% of the « duels » against other trucks. In terms of numbers, the average gain on fuel consumption is 7,7% in comparison with a truck from another make.
Mercedes Benz renews the Fuel Duel experience in 2016
In 2016, Mercedes Benz renews the Fuel Duel with new Mercedes Actros tractor units. The German manufacturer continually develops technologies that reduce the fuel consumption of their trucks. For instance, during the latest Fuel Duel, the Actros tractor units were equipped with the Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) system that helps the driver adapt his driving to the road's topography. For this new edition, Mercedes gives out a new Actros tractor unit equipped with a second generation high performance engine from the OM 471 series. This engine saves 1100 litres of fuel on a distance of 130 000km and a 3-tonne CO2 gain. With this brand new engine, the Actros tractor units are ready to take up the new Fuel Duel challenge.
