Volvo Bus presents its new electric bus !
The Busworld Kortrijk exhibition, which takes place October 16th through 21st in Belgium. This is where Volvo will unveil its latest model of bus as well as its new stabilisation system.
The Volvo 7900 electric bus is the first urban bus to be mass-produced by Volvo Bus and exclusively uses electricity. The batteries charge at the bus stops connected to the electricity network, or through the energy generated during engine braking. The operation takes less than 6 minutes and corresponds to around 10 km of driving. This mode makes the vehicle silent, non-polluting but it mostly has a better energy efficiency. Indeed, it is superior by 80% to a classic bus using diesel.
This new model completes the electrified bus range offered by the make : the Volvo 7900 electric, the Volvo 7900 hybrid electric and the Volvo 7900 hybrid (always available as an articulated bus). Since the launch in 2010, Volvo Bus sold more than 2 200 electric buses in the world.
The Volvo Dynamic Steering (VDS) system
The VDS is integrated to the make's trucks since 2013 and is in several models of Volvo coaches. From now on, the Volvo Dynamic Steering will also be offered for buses. The stabilisation system compensates for uneven roads, eliminates vibrations and steering kicks. The system enables substantially better directional stability. At low speeds, steering wheel inertia is reduced by 75%, which makes reversing easier as well as steering with the wheel automatically returning to centre. The driver's comfort and safety are improved and the risk of injury reduced.
