2012 IAA motor show in Hannover : truck manufacturers innovations
The 64th edition of the IAA motor show in Hannover took place at the end of September 2012. The IAA motor show, which takes place every 2 years, is the biggest European trade show for commercial vehicles. On that occasion, truck manufacturers showcase their new models to the public. Euro 6 tractor units and aerodynamic prototypes were on display.
This year, the IAA motor show welcomed 1 904 exhibitors coming from 46 countries and 260.000 visitors (9% more than in 2010) were there to see all the truck manufacturers innovations. Visitors got the opportunity to see 354 world previews, a true record! The participants benefited from more space to showcase their creations since the exhibit was taking place on a space of 260.000m².
Truck manufacturers are ready for the Euro 6
The Euro 6 anti-pollution norms will be compulsory as of January 2014. They should help reduce the fuel consumption as well as the CO2 emissions. Thus, truck manufacturers invested in the manufacturing of tractor units equipped with Euro 6 engine that they first showed at the 2012 IAA motor show.
Visitors saw for the first time the Scania Euro 6 engines for trucks and busses as well as the new Volvo FH tractor units series. As a preview, Iveco showcased its Iveco Stralis Hi Way, which got the 2013 Truck of the Year award. DAF Trucks manufacturer was also there with its new range of Euro 6 DAF XF tractor units.
The introduction of aerodynamic tractor units
As well as a Euro 6 motorization, manufacturers developed prototypes of aerodynamic tractor units and semi-trailers in order to reduce the fuel consumption. German manufacturer Man Trucks & Bus introduced its Concept S study with an aerodynamic tractor-trailer prototype in collaboration with Krone for the semi-trailer. Daimler, the German manufacturer, unveiled its Aerodynamics Mercedes-Benz (as part of the Aerodynamics Trucks & Trailer program). Renault Trucks introduced the CX03 concept, an aerodynamic semi-trailer.
The next edition of the Hannover IAA motor show will be held September 25th to October 2nd 2014.
