Each year, Scania puts together the YEDT competition where the best European drivers compete against one another during technical tests. The event promotes the truck driving profession, as well as the drivers including Gareth Thomas, the YETD 2012 UK winner.

Each year, Scania puts together the YEDT competition where the best European drivers compete against one another during technical tests. The event promotes the truck driving profession, as well as the drivers including Gareth Thomas, the YETD 2012 UK winner.

YETD 2012 or the Young European Truck Driver competition

Scania puts together a competition in 25 countries to find the best young truck driver. The winners of these national competitions go up against each other during the final, which takes place on 7/8 September 2012 in Sweden. The tests are based on fuel efficiency, manoeuvers, regulation, first aid and the merchandise stowage quality.

Gareth Thomas, 26, from Shrewsbury (Shropshire) took the first place at the UK Final of Young European Truck Driver 2012, which took place at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, Warwickshire on 22/23 June. The winner gets a £1000 prize and the Michelin award of a passenger drive in a MSport Fiesta Rally Car.

The YETD 2012 finale, 25 competitors on the starting block

The YETD 2012 European final will take place on September 7th and 8th, 2012 in Sweden. Gareth Thomas will represent the UK and will do everything in his power to win the “Young European Truck Driver 2012” title. The prize that goes along the title is a brand new Scania R-series! The competition will be broadcast live on Scania’s website.
