The Euro 6 norm : tough demands to reduce dust emissions
If you compare the new Euro 6 norm with the Euro 5 norm requirements, the particulate emissions are cut in half, the nitrogen oxide emissions divided by 5. The norm must be complied with for each and every truck the only exception being if the temperature goes below -7°C.
The Volvo D13 Euro 6 engine technology
To comply with the requirements for the Euro 6 norm, Volvo used their Euro 5 6-cylinder engine as a starting point. In addition to the exhaust gas after-treatment system SCR, the new Euro 6 Volvo engine is equipped with a system that converts the nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases into harmless nitrogen and water vapour. During the operation, the particulate filter is automatically regenerated.
Characteristics of the new Volvo D13 engine
The Volvo Euro 6 produces 460 hp thanks to its in-line six-cylinder 13-liter engine. The engine brake allows the engine to reach a braking power of 2300 RPM. This D13 Euro 6 engine will be available for the Volvo FH 4x2 and 6x2 tractors and trucks. It will be available for trucks with right-hand drive as well as left-hand drive. The make will market the entire Euro 6 engine range before the Euro 6 norm becomes obligatory on January 1, 2014.
