The Ford Otosan New cargo ranked third in the 2013 Truck of the Year contest but it still hardly know in Europe. This model made in Turkey is primarily sold on the national market and on the export market to Eastern Europe, Russia, the Middle East and North Africa. In Europe, Ford has lost lots of market shares since their beginnings. The participation of the Ford Otosan New Cargo in the 2013 Truck of the year contest is probably a sign of the make’s revival…
Ford on the European market
In Europe, Ford plays an important role in the car industry but that can’t be said for the truck industry. Two events marked the end of the Ford trucks in Europe : the cessation of manufacturing of Ford trucks in Amsterdam in 1981 and the sale of the English truck section to Iveco in 1997. Since then, Ford delays the relaunch of their truck activities in Europe. Maybe the presentation of the Ford Otosan New Cargo at the 2013 Truck of the Year contest marks the beginning of a new era for the make?
The Ford Otosan New Cargo
The New Cargo has gone a long way since its first outbreak in 1981. Completely redesigned by Engin Okvuran, the new model is resolutely more modern. The Ford Otosan New Cargo is equipped with a 7.3 liter and 260hp Ford Duratorq motorization. It is also available in Euro 5 version with a 9 liter 320 or 36hp engine. This model is also equipped with a 16 gear ZF16 S109 gearbox. The lack of Euro 6 motorization may deter the Ford Otosan New Cargo from being exported in Europe.
