Mercedes-Benz is investing in the future
Always true to its mission to make the green technologies more affordable and more efficient, Mercedes-Benz regularly launches sustainable innovations for the transport of goods. Even at the height of the financial crisis, the truck manufacturer continues its search for the solutions of the future.
A well-deserved success of a hybrid truck
The Mercedes-Benz Atego BlueTec Hybrid truck, presented for the first time in November 2007, guarantees lower CO2 emissions and fuel costs (reduction by 10 to 15%). After the successful deployment of its prototypes, the first 50 Atego BlueTec Hybrid trucks were sold to German clients to test the hybrid truck's suitability in real customer applications. This new truck is equipped with a parallel hybrid architecture: it is powered by the electric motor and the euro V four-cylinder EEV engine. Besides, the use of the start / stop function during stops enables to significantly improve its energy consumption.
KEM by Daimler AG: always more sustainable innnovations
In 1994, Daimler AG created the Competence Center for Emission-free Mobility (KEM) to promote the research and development of the "zero-emission vehicle", i.e. clean vehicle. The KEM development projects have no boundaries and cover all types of drive systems, incuding natural gas, LPG (Low Pressure Gas) or fuel cells, internal combustion engines and electric motors, as well as the hybrid combination of the two. The KEM center was the cradle of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class B 180 NGT and the natural gas powered Mercedes-Benz Sprinter NGT. It is worth noting that the B 180 NGT, the bestseller at KEM, not only garantees a reduction of CO2 emissions by 20%, but also offers driver the choice between natural gas and petrol drive.
Mercedes-Benz Eco Academy for a sustainable style of driving
Mercedes-Benz has been using its technological innovations not only to protect the environment, but also to provide truck drivers with the improved security and comfort level. Besides, the truck manufacturer offers its drivers the possibility to benefit from its eco-training at the Mercedes-Benz Eco Academy. This training programme is designed to teach the Mercedes-Benz clients to drive economically, thus assuring a considerable reduction of fuel consumption, reducing vehicle wear and tear, and even enhancing trafic safety.
The International Truck of the Year 2011 award for the new Mercedes-Benz trucks
As part of the IAA Commercial Vehicles Show, a group of commercial vehicle journalists from 23 countries have awarded the International Truck of the Year 2011 prize to the new versions of the Mercedes-Benz Atego, the new Mercedes-Benz Atego 12-tonner and the series-built Atego 1222 L EEV BlueTec Hybrid. Each year, this award is presented to the truck, which has made the biggest contribution in terms of fuel consumption, emission reduction, driveability, safety and comfort. In 2011, it rightly rewarded the sustainable innovations of the Mercedes-Benz Atego.
