The world speed record with a hybrid truck now belongs to the Swedish driver Boije Ovebrink and his Mean Green, a modified Volvo VN. The FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) has confirmed this record.
The flying kilometre: an average speed of 218,780 km/h!
At Hultsfred Airfield, Sweden, the Mean Green hybrid truck by Volvo set three speed records: the flying kilometre with an average speed of 218,780km/h, the standing 500 metres with the recorded speed of 115,349 km/h, and the standing 1,000 metre - an average speed of 152,253 km/h.
Boije Ovebrink: a passion for trucks and speed
The Swedish driver already holds the world speed record with a truck featuring a conventional diesel driveline: an average speed of 166.698 km/h, going up to 250km/h! It is hardly surprising that today he is the one awarded for the world speed record with a hybrid truck.
