MAN: for a higher transport efficiency
One of the leading European manufacturers of industrial vehicles, MAN Truck & Bus is particularly dedicated to improving the transport efficiency, thus enabling its clients to benefit from its innovative technologies, while simultaneously reducing their environmental impact.
Hybrid solutions for trucks and public transport
Ever since 1983, MAN has been carrying out numerous R&D projects in order to find hybrid solutions for its delivery trucks. The TGL 12.220 Hybrid, the manufacturer's latest innovation unveiled during the IAA 2010, is not yet for sale, but its technical features look highly promising. This hybrid vehicle is equipped with a 220-hp EEV-compliant diesel engine and a 60kW electric motor. The new tractor unit is expected to ensure a higher vehicle efficiency coupled with the fuel savings of up to 15%, depending on the mission. Do not forget that yet another hybrid innovation of the manufacturer – the serial MAN Lion's City Hybrid city bus – is already operating in various European cities.
Higher energy efficiency – just a matter of design?
Unlike its many competitors driven by the search for alternative energy sources, MAN has been developping new solutions based on the existing components, in particular, for its brand-new streamlined MAN Concept S. Its aerodynamic properties alone enable this new tractor unit coupled with the modified semitrailer to cut fuel consumption, and thereby CO2 emissions, by up to 25%. With MAN, there is no point in waiting for a miracle in order to reduce fuel consumption and carbon gas emissions! However, the viability of this solution fully depends on the modifications in the statutory length restrictions concerning the commercial vehicles in Europe.
Manage your fuel consumption efficiently
Given the importance of the driver's role, MAN has developped a series of practical driving courses for truck and bus drivers - «MAN ProfiDrive». The manufacturer offers the eco driver training package designed to help its participants understand and control the combination of factors affecting the fuel consumption and the truck components' wear and tear. Available since 1980, this driving course has already initiated many thousands of drivers into the basics of the environmentally friendly driving (in 2010, about 5700 participants). Nowadays, this course is also included in the MAN TGX EfficientLine package.
MAN: its green innovations rewarded
In 2011, MAN TGX 18.400 XLX was voted «Green Truck 2011» to award its lowest fuel consumption, as well as the lowest CO2 emission on the European market. The manufacturer's other model, MAN TGX 18.440 XLX, came in third. At the same time, the MAN Lion's City Hybrid bus won the environmental prize ÖkoGlobe 2011 in the category "Vehicle innovations in public transport". Its serial hybrid drive enables it to save up to 30% on fuel, and therefore reduce CO2 emissions.
