French Government Announces 2.2 Billion USD EV Initiative

frenchEVflag copyNot to be left behind on the global push to “electrify” and kick-start demand for electric cars and zero-emission vehicle technology, the French government has committed EUR1.5 billion (2.2 billion USD) in public funding to not only create, but to mandate one million recharging points for electric vehicles nationwide by 2015.  In addition new apartment complexes will be required to have EV recharge points in their parking lots starting in 2012, and then expand on that number to have a total of four million charge points by 2020.  These moves by the French government work in tandem with their previously announced goal of getting a least 100,000 Electric Vehicles on their roads by 2015 and 2 million cars by 2020
