McDowells invests over £1m on new fleet
McDowell's latest acquisitions include nine new Mercedes-Benz Atego rigids, seven 2546 Megaspace Actros tractor units (three ex-demonstrator and four new) and one new DAF XF105.
Managing director Rodger McDowell says: "We have between 80 and 85 trucks on [our] fleet, and recently we've picked up a few contracts so we've decided to expand the fleet to meet the demand."
He adds: "Our fleet is predominantly Mercedes, and they have proved to be reliable and fuel efficient over the years; that's why we've continued with them. One of our drivers, who has been with the company for over 30 years, likes DAF trucks so as a 'thank you' for his loyalty we've bought the XF105."
The nine Ategos and three ex-demonstrator tractor units were purchased outright, while the remaining four Actroses and DAF have been taken on a five-year repair and maintenance contract through Bradford-based Northside Truck and Van.
