Boughey employees see change to working terms and conditions

Approximately 550 Boughey staff will have to work one weekend every month, compared to the existing one every three months, following requests by supermarket giants Sainsbury's and Tesco for more next-day deliveries.

Richard Whiting, chief executive of parent company NWF Group, says under a 90-day consultation, all staff agreed to the new terms and conditions. No redundancies were made.

The new shift pattern has been trialled at its Deeside, Cheshire depot for the last three months, and the firm says it is confident the roll-out across the UK will be successful.

"This is good news because it ensures people actually have more work during what is still a tough economic climate," Whiting claims.

Last week, in its interim results for the six months to 30 November 2009, parent company NWF Group said operating profit at Boughey rocketed 70% to a record £1.7m, compared to £1m for the same period in 2008.
