Renault Optifuel 2010 'can cut fuel use by 10%'

Renault's recently unveiled 'Optifuel Generation 2010' aerodynamic artic, based on a modified Renault Premium tractor and highly-streamlined Lamberet trailer, can cut fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 10% compared with a conventional vehicle, according to the French truck-maker.

The futuristic Premium Long Distance tractor has a 30cm longer 'soft nose' that reduces wind drag while its roof has been raised to 4.16m to act as an integral top deflector. Instead of normal rear-view mirrors, the driver has five video cameras to help him see around the vehicle.

Following last year's on-road trials to validate consumption figures, Renault says a production version could be launched by the end of 2010.
