A refrigerator truck is equipped with a refrigerated box and a cooling unit. It is used to transport perishable goods at controlled temperature. The ATP transport regulation (concerning perishable goods transport) applicable in more than 50 countries defines three different cold class: class A (from 0 to 12°C), class B (from -10 to +12°C) and class C (from -20 to +12°C).
The cooling unit allows the refrigerator truck to generate cold, conversely to the insulated truck which can only maintain a certain temperature in the box for a limited period. The main cooling unit manufacturers are Carrier, Thermoking and Ecofridge.
The refrigerated box is an insulated box which can be mono temperature (one single storage space) or multi temperate if it is equipped with one or several partitions allowing storage at different temperatures in separated compartments. The brands Lamberet and Chereau are specialized in refrigerated box production.
Some refrigerator trucks are designed to special uses: meat transport for butcheries or flower transport on shelves. A refrigerated box can be composed of two levels and some of them are equipped with a lift gate.
