Scania : P & R Series
The transport industry is fiercely competitive. So your trucks must have high productivity, good total operating economy, and unfailing reliability. It’s all about maximum uptime with minimum cost. Meanwhile, your drivers are demanding a truck they will be proud of.
This new Scania truck range delivers – big time. These premium-duty trucks offer a wide choice of options, enabling you to specify exactly the vehicle that you need for cost-effective operations, and also one that measures up to what your drivers are demanding.
You get high-torque engines with easy driveability and outstanding fuel economy.
Cab options include improved versions of big, spacious sleepers, some completely new well-equipped day cabs, and two contrasting variations of short cabs.
Common to all these new trucks is that legendary Scania reliability – the basis for long-term dependability and profitable transportation.
The Range at a Glance
The new model range offers numerous combinations of major components that enable very precise matching of a vehicle to its task.
The model designation (such as R 580) identifies the cab and the engine (in this case, an R cab and 580 engine). Another typical examples is the P 310. All models are available as tractors and rigids with axle configurations associated with highway and on/off road applications.
The many chassis/engine/cab combinations offer further choices, such as gearbox, fame strength, chassis height, and suspension systems. It’s very easy to select the principal options so that you can optimise the truck for long haulage, distribution, construction or more specialised work such as hazardous loads, heavy-haulage, emergency response, public utilities and so on.
According to the type of operation, heavy-duty frames and rear axle gears are available where the vehicle is likely to carry heavy loads or encounter difficult operating conditions.
Both cab types (P and R) also offer choices. There are five different variations of sleeper, three different day cabs and two short cabs.
Engines
Power range from 230 to 580 hp with 9-, 11-, 12- and 16-litre engines, all based on the well-proven Scania modular combustion concept.
Scania engines deliver the performance and economy you must have for today’s competitive environment. These attributes are based on highly-efficient combustion and easy driveability.
The Scania modular combustion concept is at the heart of all these engines. The concept is being continuously advanced and refined, leading to an optimised balance of high-torque outputs, high levels of economy and lowest levels of emissions.
The engines deliver high torque from low revs. A wide, flat torque curve means drivers will find it easy to maintain good journey times without the need for constant gear changing. The green economy band on the rev counter is dynamic: according to engine load and road speed, it moves with broad limits, adding to driveability.

Chassis
An optimised chassis for high productivity
Scania chassis are optimised in every way possible to help you gain the highest efficiency and reliability. The premium-duty frames are engineered for durability to give a long service life, whilst at the same time to give maximum payload. Different classifications of frame are specified according to the type of operation you choose.
Standard duty covers virtually all highway applications all the way to maximum legal gross weights. There are also classifications designated heavy duty and extra-heavy duty; these are typically for more arduous on/off road conditions and/or gross weights exceeding normal limits.
The vast majority of applications are met by standard specifications within the segments long-haulage, distribution and construction. Chassis designed for these types of use are also well suited to more specialised operations, for example public utilities.

Cabs
Trucking is a competitive business. You must have higher productivity and lower costs. These new cabs have plenty to offer.
No matter what load is on board, someone, somewhere, is depending on its punctual arrival. Achieving these aims is largely in the hands of your drivers.
Many drivers would argue that despite advances in vehicle design and performance, their job is not getting any easier. Everyday life is routinely characterised by a stressful mix of congested traffic and tight schedules. That’s why Scania recognises the need to provide a working and living environment that reduces stress whilst at the same time maintaining a high level of alertness.
Technology
Scania technology is researched and developed with the overall objective of reducing the cost of ownership of your trucks. Scania produce premium-quality vehicles that are durable and dependable. This means that you will benefit from daily reliability and lasting quality, resulting in high residual values.
Scania's principal focus is to develop and enhance current technology and pursue new avenues of research that will benefit their customers by delivering an outstanding operating economy. With road transport becoming increasingly more competitive, it is essential that Scania's vehicle technology maximises utilization and minimises cost over the whole life cycle.
Scania also attaches high priority to safety. Safety for the driver and passengers, and safety for all other road users. As a manufacturer of heavy vehicles (some of which are transporting dangerous goods), Scania take a broad approach to both active and passive safety.
Environmental issues are ever present in their research and manufacturing. Scania's priority is to fulfil all legal requirements. They seek to achieve compliance within the letter and spirit of the law by developing effective, simple solutions aimed at minimising cost for the customer.
